Continuing Education Requirements for Massage Therapists

The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) is the national governing body responsible for credentialing Massage Therapists. In order to maintain current certification, a Massage Therapist is required to take 48 hours of continuing education (CE) every four years. Six of the 48 hours must be taken in ethics. Forty-eight hours of CE may be earned through NCBTMB Approved Providers. OnlineContinuingEd, LLC is an Approved Provider of the NCBTMB (#422983-00).

12 hours must be relevant to Massage techniques - including history of massage, human anatomy & physiology, kinesiology and/or pathology. As of September 1, 2007 these 12 CE hours must be taken via live classroom instruction which includes hands-on instruction or demonstration.
2 hrs required in prevention of medical errors.
2 hrs required in ethics. Not required for first year license renewals.
2 hrs required in Florida Rules and Laws. Not required for first year license renewals
In addition to the 24 hours required above, a course in HIV/AIDS is also required for renewal. CE should not exceed 25 hour per biennium.
