Case Presentation: Page 6 of 6

This patient was fitted with orthotics. Cold laser and Galvanic current were applied to her medial ankle ligaments. The fasciitis was treated with a variety of modalities including ultrasound, trigger point ultrasound, cold laser, and vibra-massage to release fibrotic tissue and adhesions that developed over the 4 months she did not seek care as well as reduce inflammation. The patient rolled her foot over a golf ball at home. Manipulations of the bones of the foot and ankle were performed every visit. Russian stimulation was applied to the atrophy of the lateral compartment muscles and the patient was given exercises to strengthen her ankle and foot. Turns out, Tap dancing was the best exercise for this patient’s ankle and leg strength.

This patient was under care for many months as she not only recovered from the current foot and medial ankle injury but also rehabilitated from the 8-year-old lateral ankle injury of fibrosis and atrophy.

Sometimes chronic unhealed injuries present during treatment of a new injury in that or a related area. This is because changes are being made and the older injured tissues need to readapt causing what seems like new problems but is really a restart of the healing process for the older injury that never healed properly initially.
